Cicero Completes Renovation of Dawn Restaurant

Updated: Apr 24

Cicero Construction Group announced today it has completed the renovation of Dawn, a southern-inspired brunch restaurant located at 1642 East 56th Street in Chicago's historic Hyde Park neighborhood. Previously occupied by Piccolo Mondo Restaurant, an Italian Hyde Park institution for 37 years, the 4,000-square-foot space has been completely transformed with seating for 150 patrons.

Much like the menu, Dawn's interior design reflects a modern take on a traditional Southern eatery while paying homage to its Hyde Park roots. The front of house establishes an airy warmth to give the restaurant a casual, at-home feeling, featuring a color palette of teals and cream, stand-alone modular tables, and comfy booth seating. Lighting plays a significant role in creating the ambiance of the restaurant with a mix of contemporary and retro fixtures.

Cicero Construction gave the space a revamped layout including a new commercial-grade kitchen, along with expansion of the dining room and bar area. As part of the project's scope of work, new drywall, finishes, masonry, flooring and woodwork were installed, and the MEP (mechanical, electrical & plumbing) systems were upgraded to modern standards.

The restaurateur behind Dawn is Racquel Fields, the owner of the Caribbean restaurant and rum bar 14 Parish, only a few blocks away.
